HOLLAND, Mich. — The Bluestocking Bookshop will host authors Kevin P. Wallace and L. Wright Wallace for a special book reading and signing event on Sunday, August 9, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
The coauthors will discuss their book Van of Valor and share updates on their upcoming biography of late local Vietnam War veteran Dr. Barry “Doc” McAlpine.
Preserving Untold Histories
The event highlights the mission of the Van of Valor project, an initiative founded by the authors to document and preserve personal stories of courage and everyday heroism.
The authors will read selected excerpts from Van of Valor and discuss how capturing personal histories helps strengthen local communities. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with the authors during a dedicated conversation and book-signing session.
Honoring a Local Hero
The afternoon holds specific significance for the West Michigan community. While visiting the area, the Wallaces are collaborating with the family of Dr. Barry “Doc” McAlpine to write his official biography.
McAlpine, a highly decorated local figure, earned two Silver Stars and three Purple Hearts for his service during the Vietnam War. His legacy was integrated into the Van of Valor project prior to the biography’s inception, serving as a cornerstone for the upcoming book.
